Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) standard course

A two days long mhfa standard course was arranged on 7 & 8 August in Dhaka at NGO Forum for Public Health. Dr Shahana Bilkis and Monira Rahman facilitated the course while Azizur Rahman Khan was present at the inaugural session. 

Issues were discussed:

  • Stigma associated with mental illness
  • Need for integrated model of wellbeing
  • Depression, self harm and suicide
  • Anxiety and anxiety related disorder
  • Psychosis with special focus on schizophrenia and bipolar disorder

Participants were taught on:

  • How to assess the risks associated with mental health problems
  • First aid for critical situations
  • Guide a person towards professional help and  self help
  • How to take care of herself or himself

Feedback from the participants:

  • Take specific training on adolescent and youth’s mental health
  • This training has opened a new world to me
