Launching of Mental Health First Aid Bangladesh Chapter

Innovation for Wellbeing Foundation officially launched Mental Health First Aid (mhfa) Bangladesh chapter on 9th April 2015 in Dhaka University Senate Building. Vice Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique was the chief guest while Professor cum Director, National Institute of Mental Health, Prof Dr Waziul Alam Chowdhury, Moniruzzaman, WHO Bangladesh representative and Poppy Jaman, CEO mhfa England were the special guests. The event was presided over by the IWF Treasurer Prof Dr Yasmin Ahmed and conducted by Monira Rahman the Excutive Director, IWF.  

The state Secretary, Ministry of Health sent a written letter of support for the launching of mhfa program in Bangladesh. 

Vice Chancellor of DU handed over certificate to 16 National Trainers of mhfa Bangladesh and addressed them as ‘mental health thermometer’. 

Director NIMH invited IWF to work with them for the improvement of the services for the people suffering from mental illness.

WHO Bangladesh representative informed that it has given priority in mental health issues in LMICs and congratulated IWF for bringing mental health first aid course in Bangladesh.

Number of National Trainers shared their experience with mhfa course. Kamal UA Chowdhury, Associate Professor, Clinical Psychology Department of Dhaka University, Dr Shahana Bilkis, Associate Professor of Dhaka College,  Dr Kabiruzzaman a general physician and Azizur Rahman Khan Asad spoke at the event.

Among other distinguished guests, Chairperson, Educational and Counseling Psychology Department Prof. Dr. Shaheen Islam and Chairperson, Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies, DU were present at the event.
